The modern city of
Vadodara is fitting tribute to late Shri Sayaji Rao Gaekwad.
It was the dream
of this able administrator to make Vadodara, an educational,
Industrial and commercial center and today's Vadodara stands
as a monument to his farsighted vision. The city has giant industrial
complexes and public undertakings like the Gujarat Refinery,
IPCL, GSFC, and the Heavy Water Project of the Atomic Energy
Commission.
The other places
of visits are Laxmi Vilsas Palace - one of the buildings of
the city, Major Mant, the state Architect of Maharaja Sayaji
Rao III, Designed it. The constructions of this palsce
continued for 12 years at the cost of Rs 60 lakhs. The place
worth visiting are: Palace Museum, Pratap Vilas Palace,
Makarpura Palace, M S University, Kirti Mandir, Sayaji, Bagh,
Vadodara Museum and Pecture Gallery, EME temple, Susagar Lake,
Ajwa and Nimeta Gardens.
Vadodara has a rich
and a varied historical background. It has changed its name
several times. First it was named ' Chandravati, then 'Viravati'
and later known as 'Vadpatra'. It is now called Vadodara. It
is situated on both the banks of river Vishwamitri in Gujarat
State.
Sayajirao Gaekwad
III (1875 - 1939 AD) had the vision to make the city a center
for Education, Industries and Commerce. The city has many tourist
spots, like, Palace, Museum, Art Gallery, Parks, University,
and Gardens. It also has large-scale industries.
